VESSELSAT 1 (also known as VesselSat1) is an AIS-receiving satellite launched on October 12, 2011, from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre using a PSLV launch vehicle. The spacecraft has a box shape with dimensions of 0.3 meters in length, diameter, and span, and it weighs 29 kilograms at dry mass and launch mass. It was manufactured by LUXS and is owned by LUXS/ORBC. Its mission involves traffic monitoring through an AIS-receiver payload, powered by solar cells and batteries. The satellites operational lifetime design was for three years but achieved four years of operation.
