ORBCOMM FM17, also known as Orbcomm B5, is a communication satellite designed for Machine-to-Machine (M2M) and Internet of Things (IoT) applications. Launched on August 2, 1998, from the Eastern Range Air Station (ERAS), it uses a Pegasus XL/HAPS launch vehicle from Launch Pad RW04/22. The satellite has dimensions of 0.2 meters in length and 1 meter in diameter with a span of 4.3 meters due to its deployable solar arrays. It weighs 42 kilograms at launch and is equipped with Orbcomm payload for communication purposes. ORBCOMM FM17 was manufactured by OSCG, owned by ORBC, and has an operational lifetime of approximately 4 years. The satellites shape consists of a cylinder with two panels and antennas, providing a radar cross-section (RCS) value of 0.7138 square meters. Power is supplied through deployable solar arrays and batteries.
