The satellite COSMOS 1520 [GLONASS], also known as Kosmos-1520, was launched on December 29, 1983, from the Tyuratam Space Center using a Proton-K/DM-2 launch vehicle from Launch Pad LC200/40. The spacecraft is part of the Uragan series and has a configuration that is 3-axis stabilized. It was manufactured by OAZ for GUKOS with the purpose of navigation, carrying the payload Uragan No. 15L. The satellite measures 4 meters in length, 1.5 meters in diameter, and spans 7.8 meters when its solar arrays are deployed. Its dry mass is 1200 kilograms, and it had a launch mass of 1300 kilograms. The power system consists of two deployable solar arrays and batteries to ensure continuous operation. The satellites shape is described as cylindrical with antennas and panels attached. It has a lifetime of approximately three years following its deployment.
