MOLNIYA 1-53, also known as Molniya-1, is a communication satellite launched on February 26, 1982, from the Plesetsk Cosmodrome using a Molniya 8K78M launch vehicle from Launch Pad LC41/1. The satellite was manufactured by NPOPM and operated for approximately two years under the ownership of GUKOS. It has dimensions of 4.4 meters in length, 1.4 meters in diameter, and an 8.6-meter span. The spacecraft had a launch mass of 1650 kg and a dry mass of 1620 kg. MOLNIYA 1-53 was powered by six deployable solar arrays and batteries, and its shape is described as cylindrical with six panels. It used the KDU-414A (S5.114) motor for propulsion. The satellites primary purpose was communication in orbit.
