Astronaut Sławosz Uznański-Wiśniewski, part of the ESA initiative, embarks on his journey to a new home in space aboard a Dragon spacecraft. He is taking part in the Axiom Mission 4 alongside Peggy Whitson (USA), Shubhanshu Shukla (India), and Tibor Kapu (Hungary).As they travel to the orbital facility, Sławosz and Tibor will act as mission specialists, Shubhanshu will serve as the crew pilot, and Peggy will take on the role of commander.The Polish astronaut represents a new wave of European astronauts participating in a commercial human flight opportunity through Axiom Space. The mission, which includes an ambitious technological and scientific program with numerous experiments proposed by ESA and the Polish space industry, is sponsored by the Polish government and supported by ESA, the Ministry of Development and Technology (MRiT), and the Polish Space Agency (POLSA). The mission, dubbed Ignis, will officially commence once Sławosz enters the Station.Sławosz Uznański-Wiśniewski was chosen as a reserve astronaut for ESA in November 2022, later joining as a project astronaut on September 1, 2023, for training at the ESA Astronaut Centre in Cologne, Germany.Sławosz and his crew are expected to arrive at the International Space Station approximately 28 hours post-launch. A live broadcast will begin two hours before docking, allowing viewers to witness the crew's arrival and the welcome ceremony on the ESA YouTube channel.
